"hope is the most fragile part of our lives"

I was at mass today and the homily centred around the feeling of hope. While the priest was making his sermon he said this : "hope is the most fragile part d our lives. It transcends every other emotion".
I had never heard that before. And I certainly didn't think that it was "fragile" but when you hear and really listen, u think that it's so true. It is fragile. It is completely breakable. It needs to be taken care of. I have to admit that I don't pay it the attention it needs. Well that stops today.
I think the underlying message was not to hope and wish for better tomorrows or regret the yesterdays. But to live each day to the fullest and appreciate what we have.
In the words of one of my favourites, Omar Khayyam, "be happy for this moment. This moment is your life".

Friendship by Khalil Gibran

I love this...

-----------

And a youth said, "Speak to us of Friendship."

Your friend is your needs answered.
He is your field which you sow with love and reap with thanksgiving.
And he is your board and your fireside.
For you come to him with your hunger, and you seek him for peace.
When your friend speaks his mind you fear not the "nay" in your own mind, nor do you withhold the "ay."
And when he is silent your heart ceases not to listen to his heart;
For without words, in friendship, all thoughts, all desires, all expectations are born and shared, with joy that is unacclaimed.
When you part from your friend, you grieve not;
For that which you love most in him may be clearer in his absence, as the mountain to the climber is clearer from the plain.
And let there be no purpose in friendship save the deepening of the spirit.
For love that seeks aught but the disclosure of its own mystery is not love but a net cast forth: and only the unprofitable is caught.
And let your best be for your friend.
If he must know the ebb of your tide, let him know its flood also.
For what is your friend that you should seek him with hours to kill?
Seek him always with hours to live.
For it is his to fill your need, but not your emptiness.
And in the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures.
For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed.

Chloe @ LFF 2009

Chloe was showing at the 2009 London film fest. Starring julianne Moore, liam neeson and amanda seyfried (who I must stop referring to as the mamma mia girl!). Anyhoo ...
The film centres around this successful married couple - Moore and neeson - and how she suspects he is having an affair. Then to find out if he actually is, uses seyfried's character as bait. Interesting but given it was an Atom Egoyan film you know at some point it's going to go all crazy and take a drastic turn. Which of course it did.
Now where it went was intense and quite complex. Of course all that seems obvious most certainly isn't. You have to watch it to figure it all out really.
The point of the post is really to ask: Would you employ someone as bait? I asked some friends over dinner and 5:1 they all said they would. I was the lone nay sayer.
Don't know if it's naievity or just me being plain stupid, but did I miss something?

London Film Fest 2009. - the story so far!

It's a funny thing film fests. On the one hand I love going to them. But on the other. It's one of those places that you see the only thing that in normal circumstances you would assume, strange ... Fanatics. And I mean that in a good way. Given I am one.
The people / fanatics who love film. Unequivocally. And I do. It's kinda nice to be part of a society who come for the pleasure of watching a totally make believe world.
As Pooh once said to Tiger who asked "what is it that I am meant to do" to which Pooh replied " you can be anyone you want to be. It's called imagination".

Ps. The other thing that seems to bind film fest fanatics are the iPhones. I've never seen so many in one spot!

A girl has to eat .. you can say that again!

I was at a hen do last night and there were a couple of reasons why it was such a pleasant eve:
1. The hen is one of my favourite people and doubly so because Ange laughs at my ridiculous humour and
2. The others present were super-duper interesting. It's always great when ace friends introduce you to their ace friends.

One of them happened to be a fellow blogger who actually has a very important blog: she's a foodie!! Cassie reviews restaurants all over London and so finally a reviewer who I can actually trust! It's a super site - funny, insightful, honest and critical. It's going to be my first point of call now everytime I go out to eat.

Too much knowledge

Hmmm. There is the saying, which I love, that says too much knowledge isn't a good thing. Well!
Today I went to a conference about compliance and ethics which is my field. (yes ethics. And yes my field. Whatever). The other attendees were also global heads of compliance and quite senior people in their org. Anyway I went in reasonably confident that we're on the right track and things are plodding along in development as we go. But! Flipping heck the more I heard, the more worried I got!!! Couldn't believe how much more stuff we have to do at work!!! Total yikes factor!! And don't get me started on the whistleblowing hotline!!

London film fest 2009

Very excited. There are some cool films on. Going to see quite a few. The only thing is there aren't that many Asian films and almost none from the middle east. Hmm. I miss MIFF. Now If only the royal mail would get their act together and i could get my tixs!

Here is my list ....

The visitor.

A bit late seeing this given it came out last year but gosh what a film! Richard Jenkins is amazing. Hiam Abbas even more so. It is such a true reflection of what one feels when one enters the US. Immigration rules rule; human rights not so much. No wonder the Pakistani IOC guy put such a spanner in the works for the Chicago bid. He asked Obama whether visiting the US would continue to be such a "harrowing" experience for foreigners. Amazing.
Tom McCarthy is a wonderful director. Think again if you thought the Station Agent was a one off work of genius!!!
